The Peak of Winter

Some OTA members visited the Russian Museum of Art in Minneapolis this week.  This was our second group trip to an exhibition this year (see blog post from April).  Visiting with practicing artists adds a whole new dimension to seeing the artwork as we share our reactions, questions and joy in seeing amazing art.

We enjoyed The Peak of Winter, an installation within the Northern Palette: Winter in Russian Art and Tradition - on view though January 24th in the Main Gallery.  As you can imagine, the treatment of snow covered scenes was much on display, providing inspiration to many of us as we look towards our own upcoming winter painting season.

Every painting provided inspiration in how to convey the frigid cold of winter and the beauty of a snow covered scence.

Thanks to Pat Cleary for organizing this outing.  It also served as a going away celebration for member Jean Everson - one of our longest serving members!  Jean will discontinue her studio rental in the OTA Cooperative but will remain an active participant in OTA's weekly Life Drawing sessions.
